這一篇是相隔六年的補完跟更新～ (づ′▽‵)づ~♥ 
到現在我還是無緣看到「Gay Hollywood」這部紀錄片，
再加上這幾年追導演的消息都只有文字訪問可以看，
實在是讓我很難為以「沒圖沒真相」為耕種理念的花農們更新帥哥導演的消息啊╮(￣ε￣∥)╭
是說我現在才雄雄想起一件很重要的事，
當年向花農們推銷導演時，我好像只放了「The Journey of Jared Price」的幕後花絮，
卻忘了逼大家看正片ㄟ......(￣□￣||)
然後「On the Bus」好像只有我跟貓大有看，其他人沒看到？
那片放給貓大看過的「On the Bus」DVD 後來壞掉了，我還重買一片......Orz
（↑我絕對不是在暗示貓大帶塞，請大家不要做過度的聯想）

之前有向大家提過導演出身於虔誠的摩門教家庭，
過去四年他的工作就是在電視上傳教為 HBO 的「Big Love 三棲大丈夫」影集編劇。

這部影集明年會播第三季，HBO Signature 會在9月21日開始播第二季。

這部以摩門教家庭為主角的影集讓我比較驚訝的是，編劇群裡只有帥哥導演是唯一的摩門教徒......(￣□￣||)
他接受 The Advocate 的訪問時說：
the other writers on the show "have no idea how much [Mormons] don't want to talk about polygamy."
"I find myself defending the church as much as giving out information"
"Being gay and homosexuality is in part of everybody's world.
It exists in Utah, it exists in fundamentalist Mormon culture,
it exists in [mainstream] Mormon culture,
and God know it existed for me in Mormon culture."

以前我有提過導演向媽媽出櫃的事，不過只講了一點點，
現在要提導演的新電影「Milk」前，得先把導演的背景補完才行。
（上面貼的那個座談會訪問檔有導演的自介）
導演從小在德洲長大，一直到高中才隨軍人繼父的調職搬到加洲，
Texas ＋ Mormon ＋ Military，
這種（對同志來說）先天不良的環境讓六歲就喜歡上哥哥朋友的導演痛苦到想自殺，
"I really like that boy, and it’s not just as a friend, the very second thought was,
'I’m sick, I’m wrong, I’m going to hell. And if I ever admit it, I’ll be hurt, and I’ll be brought down.’"

這種負面思想一直糾纏著導演，直到他在13歲時聽了 Harvey Milk 的演講錄音帶才獲得救贖。
"Texas kept me very quiet. I became intensely shy, I had thoughts of suicide.
I was a pretty dark kid, because I had an acute awareness of my sexuality,
and was absolutely convinced that I was wrong.
In his Hope Speech, Harvey Milk says, ’There’s that kid in San Antonio,
and he heard tonight that a gay man was elected to public office, and that will give him hope.’
And when I first heard that speech, it really did that. It really, really gave me hope, for the first time."

這也是導演第一次深刻地感受到 storyteller 的影響力。
導演在唸大學時又看了「The Times of Harvey Milk」這部紀錄片，還是一樣被感動得哭到不行，
"I just want to do something with this, why hasn’t someone done something with this?"

而這個 "do something with this" 是一直到導演當了「Big Love」的編劇，有了穩定的收入後，
才有能力將想法轉化為行動。
導演經由友人的介紹認識了 Cleve Jones，在 Cleve Jones 大力協助下，
導演訪問到 Harvey Milk 生前的友人們，他利用週末的時間訪談跟整理資料， 
直到2007年年初才完成「Milk」的劇本。
導演把劇本交給 Cleve Jones，他以為劇本會讓學生導演來拍攝，
沒想到一週後是 Gus Van Sant 打電話來跟他說
'I think this is great. Let’s make this movie.'
